Makara is a predictive model based application that integrates climate and price movements and allows farmers to reduce their financial risk and ensure they have a sustainable livelihood.
Ultimately Makara is intended to be an end-to-end solution for all farmer needs. The application provides a platform for farmers to keep an account of their farm inputs and track their management activities on a farm calendar. It also customized best practice recommendations to the farmer.
A farmer can draw precise polygons of their fields to update yield predictions based on satellite data, and to make sure location specific climate and market information is used for recommendations.
The application understands the specifics of the farmer’s needs with information such as the size of their plot, type of soil, irrigation technology, and the crops planned to be sown under mixed or inter-cropping designs.
Makara communicates the forecast for a farmer’s yield, income and profit for each crop via user-friendly audio-visual communication.
The farmer can enter detailed information for each crop and the application will maintain tabulated and comprehensive accounts of each plot for each cropping season. These inputs will be automatically incorporated in the profit recommendations.
The crop journal keeps an account of various best management practices that are suggested to reduce the risks of low-yield and incomes for different crops. Activities that improve soil health and water savings are tracked. Each farmer can maintain their own journals where they can record the management actions that they have completed, and those that remain.
Irrigation tracking and plot specific irrigation advice based on soil moisture monitoring and modelling and weather forecast.
